In short: choose a metal-free film with high UV and infrared rejection, keep the windshield light and pick the side and rear shade for the privacy you want, compare TSER rather than darkness, and have it installed by an official dealer with a warranty card.
Why tint your car
- A cooler cabin. Less infrared heat gets in, so the air conditioning cools the car faster.
- Protection for skin and eyes. UV light burns skin and tires the eyes.
- A longer-lasting interior. The dashboard and seats fade and crack less.
- Less glare from the sun and other cars' headlights.
- Privacy and safety. Belongings are less visible, and the film holds broken glass together.
1. Choose the technology
Films differ in how they stop heat: dyed (dye), metallised and sputtered (metal), and ceramic and carbon (no metal). The technology decides how cool the car stays, how clear the view is at night, whether your phone signal is affected and how long the colour lasts.
Iceberg Window Films uses 100% nano carbon, the fourth generation of window film: no metal, 99% UV and 96–99% infrared rejection, TSER of 60–83% depending on the type, and a clear view at night. See the full comparison in types of window film.
2. Choose the shade
Iceberg comes in ICEBERG 20 (lightest, VLT 70%) to ICEBERG 90 (darkest, VLT 5%). ICEBERG 20, 40 or 60 are the usual choices for the windshield; ICEBERG 60 is safe on the windshield. ICEBERG 60 to 90 are chosen for the sides and rear for privacy. Try the tint simulator to see how each shade looks.
3. Read the specs, not just the darkness
Darker is not necessarily cooler. Compare TSER (total solar energy rejected), IRR (infrared rejection) and UV rejection. The specifications of each Iceberg type:
| Specification | ICEBERG 20 | ICEBERG 40 | ICEBERG 60 | ICEBERG 80 | ICEBERG 90 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VLTVisible light through (lower = darker) | 70% | 32% | 23% | 7% | 5% |
| UVRUV rejected | 99% | 99% | 99% | 99% | 99% |
| IRRInfrared rejected | 96% | 99% | 99% | 99% | 99% |
| TSERTotal solar energy rejected | 60% | 74% | 77% | 81% | 83% |
Every term is explained in the window film glossary.
4. Prices
Iceberg prices are set per package (front window, full set (all windows)), per car size (S, M, L, XL) and per shade. After the package discount, prices start from Rp 2.210.000. Calculate the price for your car in the price list. Prices may differ between dealers.
5. Choose an installer and make sure it is genuine
The result depends heavily on the installation. Poor fitting leaves dust, bubbles and peeling edges, and counterfeit film is sold cheaply.
- Have it installed by an official Iceberg dealer.
- Ask for the official warranty card after installation.
- Check that the film is genuine and see your warranty online with the card number.
6. Installation
Car window film is fitted on the inside of the glass. The installer cleans the glass, cuts the film to shape and shapes it with heat (shrink to fit) so the windshield and rear window can be done in one piece, without seams. One car usually takes a few hours.
7. Aftercare
Keep the windows up and do not clean the inside until the adhesive has dried; keep the windows up for 3 days. Haze or small bubbles at first are normal. Clean with water, a mild soap and microfibre, never ammonia. See window film care.
Checklist before you tint
- You know your car size (S, M, L or XL) and which package you need.
- You have chosen a shade for the windshield and for the sides and rear.
- You have compared TSER, not only darkness.
- You are using an official dealer and will receive a warranty card.
- You can keep the windows up for 3 days after installation.
Frequently asked questions
How long does car window tinting take?
Usually a few hours for one car, depending on the size of the car, the number of windows and whether old film has to be removed first. Ask the dealer for an estimate when you book.
Is window film applied on the inside or outside of the glass?
On the inside, where it is protected from rain, dust, car washes and wipers.
How do I know my window film is genuine?
Have it installed by an official dealer and ask for the official warranty card. For Iceberg, you can check the warranty online with the card number. Be wary of prices far below the official price list.
Can I install window film myself?
No. Window film can only be installed by professionals, so the result is right and lasts. Have it installed by an official Iceberg dealer to get the 5-year warranty card.
Can I tint an electric car?
Yes. A metal-free film such as nano carbon does not interfere with the car's signals and electronics, and helps reduce the load on the air conditioning.
