Window Film Care

What to do and avoid after tinting, how to clean window film without damaging it, and how long it lasts.

Updated 20 October 2026 by the Iceberg Window Films team

In short: after tinting, keep the windows up and do not clean the inside until the adhesive has dried (keep the windows up for 3 days). Haze or small bubbles at first are normal. Clean with water, a mild soap and microfibre, never ammonia.

The first days after tinting

Window film is applied with a fluid so the installer can position it and fit it without dust. The fluid needs time to evaporate and the adhesive needs time to bond. While the film cures:

  • Keep the side windows up. The window seal can catch and roll the edge of the film.
  • Do not clean or touch the inside of the glass.
  • Do not use the rear demister for the first 3 days.
  • Do not stick anything with adhesive directly onto the film.
  • Park in the sun when you can, to help the film dry faster.

When can you roll the windows down?

Keep the windows up for 3 days after installation so the adhesive can bond properly. Also follow your installer's advice.

Haze, water spots and bubbles

In the first days the glass may look slightly hazy or show small water spots. That is leftover installation fluid and it disappears as the film dries. Do not press, rub or pierce it.

If bubbles remain after the curing time, or large air bubbles appear, the film may not have been fitted cleanly or there may be dirt under it. Take the car to an official dealer.

How to clean window film

  1. Wait until the curing time is over.
  2. Use clean water with a little mild soap, such as baby shampoo.
  3. Wipe gently with a soft, clean microfibre cloth, in one direction, without pressing hard.
  4. Dry with a second microfibre cloth.

Avoid: glass cleaners containing ammonia, which can damage window film; tissues and rough cloths that can scratch; brushes, blades or scrapers; and abrasives such as toothpaste on the inside.

How long does window film last?

TypeWhat usually happens over time
DyedThe dye breaks down in sunlight, the colour fades to purple and heat rejection drops
Metallised and sputteredThe metal layer can corrode, especially near the coast and in humid climates
Nano carbon (Iceberg)No dye to fade and no metal to corrode; official 5-year warranty

Besides the material, lifespan depends on the quality of installation, how the film is cleaned and how much direct sun the car gets.

Signs your window film needs replacing

  • The colour has turned purple or faded.
  • Bubbles appear or the film peels at the edges.
  • Scratches get in the way of your view, especially at night.
  • The cabin feels much hotter than it used to.

Old film has to be removed and the adhesive cleaned off before new film goes on, because window film cannot be applied over old film.

Keeping your warranty valid

Iceberg film installed by an official dealer has a 5-year warranty. Keep your warranty card, and check the warranty online at any time. Damage from misuse, such as scratches from sharp objects or harsh cleaning products, can void the warranty.

Frequently asked questions

How long after tinting can I roll my windows down?

Keep the windows up for 3 days after installation so the adhesive can bond properly. Also follow the advice of the dealer who installed it.

Is it normal to see haze or small bubbles after tinting?

Yes, in the first days. It is leftover installation fluid that evaporates as the film cures. Do not press or pierce it. If bubbles are still there after the curing time, take the car back to an official dealer.

Can I use a normal glass cleaner on window film?

Avoid cleaners that contain ammonia, which can damage window film. Use clean water with a mild soap or baby shampoo and a soft microfibre cloth.

How long does window tint last?

It depends on the type and quality. Dyed film can fade within a few years, while films with no dye and no metal, such as nano carbon, do not fade or corrode. Iceberg film installed by an official dealer has a 5-year warranty.
